Light As Heir by Chester D.
WARNING: Mpreg.
“Trowa, I want to have a baby.”
Trowa’s response to Quatre’s unexpected request was to fall off the ladder with
a piercing scream and land in a pile of spare MS parts. He crawled upright with
a face the colour of dry wall and sputtered, “Wh-what? Y-you want t-to what?”
Quatre sighed and helped his lover to his feet. “I want to have a baby, Trowa.”
Trowa gulped loudly and was aware that he was beginning to shake. “Uhhh....Quatre?
I think that’s just a wee bit out of your gender league...”
“No, it isn’t. Several men have been able to have embryos implanted into their
bodies. Of course the baby had to be removed by a caesarian, but I’m willing to
go through with that. For an heir to the Winner family line.”
Jesus Christ. He’s asking me make a baby. What will I tell him?
Trowa cleared his throat nervously. “ How do you plan to conceive a child, Quat?
We’re both guys. It’s impossible.”
Quatre shook his head and smiled patiently. “Not anymore. Science and technology
have improved lately, making it possible to convert yours or my chromosomes from
XY code to XX code.”
Trowa’s eyebrow went up. “So you’re saying you’ll become a girl?”
“No, silly. They’ll remove our components for copulation and alter the
chromosomes outside of our bodies. It’ll be just like having an egg made with my
DNA code in it. Then when they fertilize it, they can place it in my body where
it’ll gestate.”
Trowa stared silently at his little blond sweetheart for a full five minutes.
“You had this all planned out, didn’t you?”
Quatre blushed. “It was something I’d been turning over in my mind for the past
few months.”
Trowa absently twiddled with the wedding ring on his finger and asked softly,
“You really want a child that badly, Quat?”
Quatre nodded sheepishly. Trowa blinked. They shared a brief silence in the
large MS hangar before Trowa finally sighed. “If it’s what you really
want....I’ll do it.”
Quatre let out a gleeful cry and glomped onto his husband.
Well....it could’ve been worse, Trowa thought. He could have asked me
to carry the kid.
* * *
The whole process of creating an artificial womb was complete, and Quatre had been injected with components of himself and Trowa. However, it was a difficult procedure, and it had failed several times. Quatre was beginning to doubt his abilities to carry a child and announced that this would be his final attempt at creating life. Of course, the possibility of conceiving a test tube baby was extremely favourable, but Quatre wanted none of that. He was going to do it the old fashioned way.
One last shot.
One last prayer.
* * *
Trowa gnawed on his thumbnail nervously and watched the bathroom door. He had mixed feelings about the whole thing; he wasn’t sure he would exactly be the best father in the world, if indeed he became one. He hadn’t contacted the other Gundam pilots or even his own sister about their plans, just in case it turned out to be a failure. Thinking of his tender-hearted lover, he hoped for Quatre’s sake that their attempts would succeed, lest he be confronted by a very broken hearted Arabian.
The doorknob turned. Trowa stopped biting his nail and held his breath. Quatre
emerged with the pregnancy test in hand. He was staring at it, tears in his eyes
and for one awful moment, Trowa sensed that it had failed.
Quatre looked up at him with a small smile and whispered, “It
worked....I.....I’m pregnant.”
Trowa was agog, staring at Quatre. Then he let out a joyous scream and scooped
the little blond Arabian into his arms, spinning him around.
“Oh my God! Oh my God!” he repeated, aware that he had begun to cry. “It worked!
It-! It really-!”
Quatre squeezed Trowa as hard as he could and wept in sheer joy.
* * *
“GUESS WHAT, EVERYONE!” Trowa screamed to the Maganacs, who stared at him strangely. Trowa could barely contain himself, acting rather out of character considering his usual deadpan emotion.
“QUATRE’S GONNA HAVA BABY! I’M GOING TO BE A FATHER!!”
A dreadful look crossed his face.
“Oh my GOD! I forgot to call my sister!”
And he rushed off. Abdul and Rashid were speechless.
“Has master Trowa lost his mind?” Abdul inquired, scratching his head. Rashid
shrugged.

“Hello?” Catherine inquired. Circus music was in the background. She pulled the phone away from her ear as the screaming voice of her brother greeted her ears. It sounded like utter gibberish.
“Woah, Trowa! Slow down! I can hardly understand you.”
“We’re gonna hava baby! Me and Quatre! I’m gonna be a daddy and you’re gonna be
an AUNT!! Aunt Cathy! WAAAAHAAAAAAA!!!”
Catherine grimaced at the piercing shriek. “What do you mean? Trowa, I think
you’ve gone off the deep end, honey. Listen, I can accept you getting married to
Quatre, but his being pregnant is just a little hard for me to be-”
“IT’S TRUE! We had a medical procedure done and it failed a couple times but now
it FINALLY HAPPENED!! It’s true! I swear! If you don’t believe me, ask Quatre!”
Catherine considered that since she had never seen or heard her brother so
worked up, it must be the truth. Strange, but the truth. “I...I don’t know what
to say...” she stammered, then smiled. “Congratulations! Is it a boy or a girl?”
“We don’t know yet. I hope it’s a girl. Or-no. Wait. I hope it’s a boy. Quatre
needs an heir. But I’d like to have a-! AW, SCREW IT! Cathy, I’m so happy!
This-this is-!”
Catherine’s smile broadened as she listened to her brother’s ecstatic rambling
on the other end. Then she had to let him go. She had a show to do. She gave her
brother a fond farewell and wished him the best of luck.
He would need it.

Trowa got Duo and Heero’s answering machine:
Heero: “You have reached 87-66-04. Sorry we can’t come to the phone right now
but if you’ll-”
There was a bang and the sound of Duo screeching gleefully.
Heero: “-if you’ll just leave your name and num-WILL YOU GET OFF OF ME,
BAKA?!”
Duo: “Come back to bed, koibito!”
Heero: “Like hell I will! Err, uhhh..! If you’ll leave your name, number and a
brief message-”
Duo: “I’m so hooooooorrrrrneeeyyyy!!”
Heero: “-we’llgetbacktoyoulater-! Duo, omae o koro-!”
There was a click. Then a beep. Trowa cleared his throat.
“This is Trowa. You know my number. Give me a call, and I’ll tell you something
important.... WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!”
And he hung up grinning.
* * *
“Hello?” Wufei grumbled.
“Quatre and I are having a baby.”
Wufei dropped the phone and swore profusely in Chinese.

~Three months later~
“Does this shirt make me look fat?” Quatre asked, looking at his reflection in
the mirror. He turned this way and that, noting the small bulge growing in his
abdomen.
“Hello? Trowa? I asked you something.”
Trowa sighed. “You’re pregnant, Quat.”
“I’m a fat Quat. Seriously, I must have gained ten pounds. Lookit these cheeks.
I look like a chipmunk...”
He continued to examine himself and Trowa shook his head. It wouldn’t be much
longer before the midnight snack attacks started.
Six more months.
~Five months later~
Trowa turned on the kitchen light. Quatre had a feast spread out on the table,
and was currently devouring a box of Twinkies.
“Quat? What are you doing up this late? It’s four in the morning.”
Quatre shrugged. “I was hungry.”
Trowa sighed and slumped down in a chair across from Quatre, watching him attack
a nearby box of Chinese food and tear into it with gusto. He didn’t even appear
to chew. Just inhaled it.
Trowa fell asleep at the kitchen table while listening to Quatre wolf down a
plate of fried chicken.
~Seven months later~
Quatre was incredibly pregnant. No coat or t-shirt could hide it. It broke his
heart when he couldn’t button up one of his many beloved vests anymore. Every
morning was hell for Trowa, if he ever went to sleep. Quatre suffered badly from
morning sickness and Trowa had to constantly be in there with him. And the
mood swings.....you don’t even want to hear about the mood swings,
but I’ll tell you anyway.
One second Quatre’s all lovey-dovey and the next he’s tearing into every human
being and snarfing down whole buckets of Bon-Bons. He tore Trowa up viciously
one moment and then apologised to him the next. He even jumped down Rashid’s
throat one day because the mansion estate was painted ivory white instead
of creamy white.
And there was the time Trowa had walked into the living room and seen Quatre
with the headphones placed on his bulging midsection, playing violin music. He
turned right around and walked back out.
~Nine months later~
By this far along, Quatre looked like he was about to explode. They had all the
necessary preparations for the baby who, because of Quatre’s unusual condition,
gender was undeterminable. Girl or boy, it would be named Vier Ran Winner. As
much as Quatre wanted an heir, he also wanted a girl.
“I swear to God, Trowa,” Quatre muttered, nauseous with his usual bout of
morning sickness. “I want this thing OUT of me.”
The date for the final operation was set, and Trowa and Quatre departed for the
hospital. They made Trowa stay in the waiting room, where he quickly went to
pieces in his anxiety.
Quatre had been in surgery for two hours now. Trowa started on his second pack
of cigarettes and paced around the room for the forty-third time, hands behind
his back. He was so engrossed in his thoughts that he didn’t even notice when
the doctor walked in.
“Trowa Barton-Winner?” he inquired, and the aforementioned nervous wreck hit the
ceiling in a spaz and smashed to the floor.
He blinked up at the doctor, who read off his clipboard:
“Congratulations. You’re now the father of a six pound, seven ounce beautiful
baby girl.”
Trowa stared. The cigarette plummeted from his lips and burnt a hole in the
carpet. Then he let out a wild shriek and jumped to his feet, grabbing the
doctor and dragging him around the waiting room in a mock dance.
“IT’S A GIRL! IT’S A GIRL!” he sang. The doctor was only happy enough to tear
away from the overjoyed new father and make himself scarce. Jeez, someone ought
to get that lunatic under control...
* * *
Trowa wandered into Quatre’s room, where the small blond was sleeping. Trowa pulled up a chair next to the hospital bed and held Quatre’s hand for several minutes. Finally, Quatre stirred and awoke.
“Trowa?”
“I’m right here, Quat.”
He saw Quatre smile slightly and felt him squeeze his hand. “Is it a boy or a
girl? I was unconscious.”
“It’s a girl.”
Quatre closed his eyes and tears ran down his splotchy cheeks.
“Thank God,” he wept. “How is she?”
“She’s doing fine, Quat. They have her down in the infant’s ward. I was planning
on going down to see her, but I wanted to check on you first. Are you still
hurting?”
Quatre grimaced and grinned at the same time.
“Feels like my guts were ripped out and stuffed back in,” he said. “And I think
the epidural they gave me could knock out a rhino.”
Suddenly, they heard a scuffle outside the door and Duo burst into the room
wearing a party hat and blowing on a kazoo. Heero trudged into the room,
followed by an equally disgruntled Wufei.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO-DAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO-DAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR-”
Heero wrenched on Duo’s braid and he let out a squawk. Trowa got up and embraced
all three of his comrades.
“My God, I thought you’d forgotten! I haven’t seen you guys in years!”
“Well, we didn’t get your message ‘til three days ago and we decided to come
down for a spell,” Duo explained. “We also stopped by L5 and picked up this
pleasant traveller.”
He jerked a thumb towards Wufei, who made a horrendous face at his back. Quatre
laughed. They had changed so much, and yet not at all.
Duo’s wish for a few more inches in height had come true. His hair was
considerably longer, still wearing it in the same braid. Heero looked like he
had gotten stockier and a little bit taller, though not as tall as Duo. Wufei’s
hair had grown longer, but he still wore it slicked back into that ponytail. He
seemed to have lost some of that visible muscle yet still remained slender and
sleek looking.
He walked over to Quatre’s bed and crossed his arms. “So was it a boy or a
girl?”
“Girl. Her name is Vier Ran Winner. Isn’t that pretty?”
Wufei rolled his eyes. “Of course. I should have expected a princess like you to
have a girl. You should let me train her. I can make a warrior out of her-”
“Hell no!” Duo butted in. “You should let me teach her how to fix things! She
could become president of the Sweepers some day-”
“You couldn’t fix a turkey sandwich,” Wufei snapped.
“You couldn’t fix yo’ mama,” Duo bit back.
While they bickered, Heero entered the conversation.
“Don’t ever let Vier become a soldier,” he said quietly. “Human lives are too
precious.”
Quatre nodded, amazed at the change that had come over Heero. Trowa halted the
chattering by saying, “So, who wants to go see our daughter?”
* * *
She was such a tiny thing. A little pink, squirming bundle. She had Quatre’s pale blue eyes and blond hair. He started to cry when he saw her.
“She-she’s perfect! Absolutely perfect!”
The nurse placed Vier in Trowa’s arms. He sat in a chair quietly, watching her
as she slept.
“Hey there,” he whispered. A tiny fist grasped his index finger and he smiled,
tears in his eyes. “Do you know who I am? I’m your dada. Can you say that?
Dada?”
She opened her eyes and gave a little murmur of contentment. Trowa was at a loss
for words. Duo suddenly interrupted the moment by asking,
“Ooh. Ooh. Lemme see, lemme see. Can I hold her? Huh? Huh? Lemme see. I wanna
hold, I wanna hold!”
Trowa carefully transferred Vier into Duo’s arms. “Don’t drop her,” he warned.
“I won’t. Good morning, widdle sunshine! You’re so cute! Yes you are! Yes you
are! Can you say ‘Uncle Duo’ for me? Can ya?”
Vier smiled and gurgled a reply. Duo had a direct attack of the Cutes.
“Awwwww! KAWAII! KAWAII!! She’s so smart! Yes you are! You’re a smart
girl! Heero-!”
Duo looked up with a gleaming sparkle in his eyes.
“Heero, maybe we should-”
“No way in Hell,” he said firmly.
“Aw, c’mon. Just hold her. See how it feels.”
Before Heero could protest, Vier was dumped into his arms and he stood there in
shock. He looked down at the thing he held. Vier gave a toothless smile and
dribbled on her blanket. Normally, Heero would be disgusted by babies but this
one was different. She was like a warm little fuzz ball. He liked her.
Heero felt himself smile -it’s a sign!- and he cooed gently to her. Duo watched
in satisfaction. Then Heero turned to Wufei, standing in the far corner of the
room, and asked, “You want to hold her, Wufei?”
“No.”
“Too bad. Here she comes.”
Vier was handed to the fourth person in ten minutes and Wufei looked around the
room desperately, as if searching for a place to dispose of it quickly.
“Eew,” he complained. “She’s drooling everywhere. I can’t train a drooling
warrior. Will somebody take her from me? NOW?”
They all stood by and grinned at Wufei’s helpless state.
“Nothin’ doin’, ‘Fei,” Duo chuckled. “We couldn’t let you miss your turn.”
He shot Duo a vile look before gazing down at Vier. She stopped smiling and
stared back oddly, blinking large blue eyes. “What are you looking at?” he
grumped.
She blinked.
“What? Is there something on my face?”
She blinked again.
“Fine. Don’t answer me then.”
Vier broke into a grin and slobbered all over the front of Wufei’s shirt. He
handed the infant to Quatre and cursed softly, looking at the large drool stains
on his shirt.
“Duo? Would you like to be Vier’s godfather?” Quatre asked.
Duo beamed brightly. “Would I ever! Who’s the godmother?”
“All my sisters and Catherine.”
“All twenty nine of ‘em? Jesus, Quat. That’s a lot of friggin’ aunts.”
Quatre nodded and turned his attention back to Vier. She was so perfect. Like a
little angel. His little angel.
Trowa came up behind Quatre and hugged him. “I can’t believe it worked, Quat. It really worked.”
“It’s a miracle. It was meant to be.”
He touched the tip of her nose and smiled.
“She’s our little miracle.”
~Four years later~
“Daddy! Trent won’t give back my crayons. He’s eating them!” Vier complained,
tugging on her father’s sleeve. Trowa put down the newspaper and gazed over at
his two year-old son, who was enthusiastically devouring the purple crayon.
“Trent, don’t eat your sister’s crayons. They’re not healthy.”
Trent, like his older sister, was created and born in the same way as Vier. So
now they had two miracles. One that looked like Quatre (Vier) and one that
looked like Trowa (Trent). Trent’s hair even had the habit of falling into his
green eyes. He constantly blew it away.
Trent stopped eating the purple crayon and pouted. He handed the crayon back to
Vier.
“Eew! I don’t want it now that you’ve spitted on it!”
Trent stuck his tongue out at Vier. She returned the favour by scrunching her
face up and wiggling her fingers at the side of her head.
“Nah nah,” she sang.
“Alright you two,” Trowa said. “Calm down....or else I’ll get...”
Their eyes went wide.
“...The Belt.”
The Belt. Trowa told the about The Belt when they were being naughty, and it
always scared them straight. It was six feet long and two feet wide and covered
in jagged, rusty spikes, and made out of three layers of tanned leather,
sheathed in a cover of steel-
“Trowa! Are you teasing the children again?” Quatre called from the kitchen.
“YES!” Vier and Trent cried. Trowa tried to hide his laughter.
Quatre stuck his head out the kitchen door and shot Trowa a glare. He pretended
to be gazing at the ceiling in an interested way. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
“Must be them,” Trowa said, getting up and walking out to the foyer. He opened
the door as Vier and Trent peeked out from behind him. Before Trowa could greet
them, Vier and Trent cried out in unison, “UNCLE DUO!!”
Duo dropped to his knees and gathered the kids into an enormous hug. “How you
little brats doing? Vier! Long time no see, Sunshine!”
Her nickname had always been Sunshine, ever since the say she was born.
“And Trent! My little homie-dog! Slap me some skin!”
Grinning, Trent slapped Duo’s palm lightly. Duo grimaced and fell over,
clutching his hand.
“Aah! You’re so strong! You broke all five hundred bones-!”
“You only have two hundred, baka,” Heero said, stepping over Duo’s body
and through the door. Wufei sighed and did the same. Duo picked himself up as
Trowa chuckled. The kids loved Duo to death, and they were always sad when he
left. They were kind of weary around Heero, but he did The Rocket, a sort of
game they played with a chair, pretending it was a rocket. And for that, the
kids loved him too. Wufei was surprisingly transformed around children, taking
them for rides on his back till he had carpet burns on his hands and knees.
Heero and Wufei walked into the kitchen and asked Quatre, “Anything we can do to
help?”
“Nope! Thanks, though. So,” he could scarcely hide his grin. “ How’s married
life treating you, Heero?”
He didn’t think it was possible for Heero to blush, but he did then.
“Fine,” he said in a high voice. But Quatre knew the neighbours back home must
be complaining of the noise by now.
Duo and Trowa walked into the kitchen. The kids followed Duo like puppies.
“Hey, you two! Scat! We got big kid stuff to discuss!” Duo said.
Vier put her hands on her hips defiantly. “But I AM a big kid!”
Duo chuckled. “Not big enough for this. Now out. Go play with your
Barbies or something.”
“I do NOT play with Barbies.”
“I don’t care. Go play with ‘em anyway.”
And he shooed them away. Trowa crossed his arms suspiciously.
“Alright. What’s going on, you two?”
His eyes went from Heero to Duo. Gushing, Duo pulled up his shirt slightly, and
every jaw in the room dropped.
“Oh my GOD. Not you, too!” Wufei groaned, hands to his face in a Home Alone
reenactment.
Duo laughed. He had a very noticeable bulge in his stomach. Heero blushed some
more and he pulled down his shirt.
“So you’re pregnant?” Quatre asked.
Duo nodded and Quatre screamed in delight. Duo picked up and the both of them
started to hop around in circles, holding each other’s hands and screeching as
loud as they could. Wufei fainted on the floor. Trowa put a hand on Heero’s
shoulder and said, “You have my sympathy, Heero. Really.”

Note: Vier ( veer ) is German for four, and we all know about Quatre’s name...
Trent ( tront ) is Italian for three, resembling Trowa’s name.
