AC199 L2 January
He walked down the narrow lane, glancing down at the piece of paper in his hands
and then at the houses around him. These directions had to be wrong.
This doesn’t look like the type of life that would suit Duo, he thought,
gazing at the ritzy and glitzy town houses with dismay. Maybe he was reading the
directions wrong. Maybe the man had made an error and directed him elsewhere. It
was too late now. After two hours walking the streets back and forth without
luck, Heero now found himself profoundly pissed off and exhausted.
He sat down on a bench and reread the directions. With a growl, he crumpled up
the piece of paper and tossed it into the gutter. He sat there for a long time,
pondering this and that and giving an excuse for him to rest his feet.
I shouldn’t have worn these boots, he thought pensively. I had no idea
I was going to be walking all over this damned colony...
He pulled out the small photograph from his coat pocket and stared at it
morosely. It was a picture of himself and Duo, at that stupid, ridiculous pizza
place for little kids. It was an old photo, four long years ago. The edges were
worn and soft, and it had begun to yellow around the sides. Heero did the
unthinkable and let a hint of a smile break through on his face as he gazed at
the photograph.
He was not smiling in this picture. He never was. Duo, however, had a grin
plastered on his face that looked as if it might permanently be etched into his
features. He had his arm slung about Heero’s shoulders and was flashing a
victory sign, winking at the same time. He looked utterly ridiculous.
I really miss you, baka. I didn’t know until you left how empty I felt
inside...
He pocketed the photograph and stood up, looking around at the cityscape. He
could ask someone for directions, but he didn’t feel the need to drag other
people into it. This was a personal affair of his, a mission. He had to find Duo
now, and do something he should have done three years ago...
Four Years Earlier...
“Hey, Heero!” Duo called, and poked his head into his comrade’s room. Heero was
busy typing on his laptop.
“Hn?” he grunted, never tearing his eyes from the screen. Duo lingered in the
doorway and sashayed about with his hands behind his head.
“You wanna go get some grub? I’m starving.”
“What do you mean? You are a grub.”
Duo laughed out loud and Heero smiled inwardly.
Baka...you’re the only person who can make me smile...
“Grubs, grubs, grubs!” Duo cried, advancing toward Heero in leaps and bounds
with his hands in the dreaded ‘Claw Mode’. Heero took one look at him and felt
his face twitch. Then he broke out in a loud laugh. Duo continued to prance
around the room yelling,
“Grubs! Grubs, grubs!”
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Heero asked, wiping a tear from his eye. Duo
stopped in the middle of his insane frolic and shrugged.
“I dunno. Wanna go get some food?”
Heero shook his head and Duo’s face fell.
“Well, too bad, buddy-boy. You’re coming with me.”
He walked over to Heero and jerked him up roughly by the arm. Heero was appalled
at his friend’s behaviour and pulled his arm away roughly.
“I am not going anywhere.”
“Oh, yes you are,” Duo said in a commanding voice. “You’ll go to Upchucky Cheese
and LIKE it.”
“The hell I will.”
~At Upchucky Cheese’s~
Heero sipped on his soda and tried to concentrate on boring a hole through Duo’s
forehead with his eyes. God, what he would give to be an X-Man now...
Duo was tearing into the pepperoni, mushroom, and extra cheese pizza like a
cloud of starving locusts. Heero watched in morbid fascination as he proceeded
to inhale two pieces at once and waited until the unashamed show of gluttony had
ended before attempting to say anything.
Duo leaned back and let out an earth-shaking belch. Several children stopped
playing video games and clapped appreciatively. Duo grinned and bowed slightly.
Heero was appalled for the second time that day.
“You know,” he said, turning to Duo. “You are a revolting paragon of abhoration.
Did you know that?”
Duo leaned over and said in a low burp,
“Thank you.”
He swung his legs out of the booth and declared,
“Alright. The Master of Digital Entertainment has arrived. Heero, let’s go play
video games until we puke.”
“Let’s not and say that we did, hm?”
Duo rolled his eyes and stood up. “Man, there’s no point in playing Whack-a-Mole
if there isn’t anyone strong enough to break the little bastards.”
He dragged Heero out onto the floor. Heero tried to stay seated, but it was
either the booth and/or his arm being ripped out that prevented him. He
grudgingly played all the games with Duo, beating him badly in all areas. He now
had a whole roll of tickets while Duo had a whopping three. But he didn’t see
Duo complaining....then the little hellion decided they should get their picture
taken together.
He dragged Heero over to the Upchucky Cheese mobile and demanded,
“Get in! We’ll get our picture made!”
“Like the fuck!” Heero cried, and tried to get away. Duo caught him around the
waist and dumped him into the front seat, right next to that sadistic statue of
the mangled looking rat who was Upchuck himself. Duo popped money into the
picture machine and scrambled into the backseat. He threw his arm around Heero
and grinned stupidly.
“SAY CHEESE!!”
Flash.
Heero was now officially blind. They got the picture and stumbled out of the
restaurant, still seeing splotches. Heero was pissed.
“I never want to be seen in public with you again,” he growled.
Duo rubbed his eyes. “Aw, cheer up! Here, I’ll even let you keep the picture.”
“I don’t want it.”
For the first time that night, Duo stopped smiling. Heero suddenly realised that
he had offended him...but what did he care? Let him be offended. He had acted
like an ass all night, he deserved it. But the sight of Duo’s broken-hearted
expression forced the words into his mouth.
“God, I was just kidding, Duo. Give me the stupid thing.”
He swiped the picture from his hand and a relieved smile found its way onto
Duo’s face. Heero suddenly felt a lot better when he saw him smile, and they
walked back home together.
Heero sighed and wandered into an L2 park. That had been four years ago. He
wondered how Duo was, feeling guilty for leaving him like that. Without warning,
no note, no sign. It wasn’t his fault. He’d had a mission that called him back
to Earth, and he went without question. As much as he hated to admit it, Duo
remained his closest friend....his only friend. He regretted his actions for the
thousandth time. Duo had no way to contact him, or even know he was still alive.
Heero stopped and felt the warm breeze brush his dark brown hair into his eyes.
I want you back, Duo. I’ve never felt human without you around me and...and I
want to tell you that...
He walked a crowded lane where street vendors called out to passers-by. By this
time in the early evening, Heero was ready to give up. Maybe Duo had gone to
Earth to find him. Maybe he had moved to another colony. Or maybe-
A flash of black caught Heero’s attention.
Oh my God. Is it-?
He pushed and shoved through the crowd, trying to catch another glimpse. The
figure wore a black hat, black shirt and jeans and- Heero felt his heart leap
into his throat when he saw the long chestnut braid falling down the back.
He never shouted, only madly clamored for the figure. He broke though the crowd
and grabbed the shoulder, spinning the figure around.
Heero saw the lavender eyes open wide in shock. He saw those perfect lips part
and whisper something unintelligible. He had found him. He had found Duo
Maxwell.
“Duo...!”
“Hee...Heero...”
The lips quivered and then something violent glinted in those eyes. He had never
expected Duo to react this way, but he did; he hauled off and punched Heero in
the face. He stumbled backwards, clutching his face in surprise.
“Duo! What...?”
He gritted his teeth and shoved Heero hard in the chest. Tears were already
shining in his eyes.
“Where the hell did you go?! I thought you had left because of me! You bastard!”
He shoved him again. Heero was too shocked to do anything. He didn’t even try to
defend himself.
“Where the fuck do you get off pulling shit like that?! I didn’t know if
you were dead or alive! Why did you leave like that! Why didn’t you fuckin’
tell me?!”
People began to back away in fear and the street vendors watched in amusement.
Duo stepped to Heero and grasped his collar in his fist. Even then, it was hard
to be fearful of someone who was crying at the same time.
“Duo...I...didn’t mean to leave you-”
“Bullshit!” he screamed, and threw Heero backwards. People scattered as
Heero sat up off his back. When had Duo become so strong?
He looked up to see Duo towering over him like a thundercloud. Then he reached
down and jerked Heero up roughly, punching him again. Heero’s head reeled with
the force of the blow. Duo clutched onto his jacket and screamed,
“You really fucked me up by doing that, Heero! I haven’t slept decently in
four fuckin’ years! I thought you’d died or something! Why in the
fuck-?!”
He could scream no more. His grip loosened and he hung his head and sobbed.
Heero gulped and whispered,
“I’m sorry.”
“Sorry doesn’t cut it, Heero,” he choked. “You have no idea of the torment you
put me through. You were my best friend! You were my role model!
You-! You-!”
Duo reached up and slapped him across the face before completely breaking down.
“Why...? Why did you leave me, you fuckin’, cold-blooded bastard?”
Tears miraculously started to run down Heero’s cheeks. Duo looked up into his
face with shock.
“Heero...I-I’ve never...seen you cry before.”
Heero wiped them away. “Even cold-blooded bastards have feelings.”
They were silent. Slowly, Heero drew Duo into his arms and squeezed him tightly.
Duo sobbed onto his shoulder and wrapped his arms around Heero’s neck, never
wanting to let go. Heero closed his eyes and sighed.
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry...if you can’t forgive me, I’ll understand. I
don’t deserve to be forgiven after what I’ve done...
Heero felt his face contort and he no longer chose to hold back on his tears.
~At Duo’s Place~
“It isn’t much, but it’s home to me,” Duo said, watching as Heero looked the
place over. It was an old, run-down and dusty building. They had entered on the
first floor and were now on the second of three storeys. This one was slightly
in more order than the first, though not by far. Clutter still lined the walls
here and there and somewhere a window was open, letting the night air into the
house. Duo looked sheepish as he explained,
“I made plans for renovating it, but I’ve been busy.”
Heero glanced up. “With what?”
“Being depressed.”
Pause.
“Over me?”
Duo nodded timidly. Heero sighed.
“Please don’t guilt me any more than I need to be,” he muttered, and sat down on
the couch. Duo walked into the kitchen. “Want coffee?”
“Yeah. Coffee’s fine.”
He brewed a fresh pot while Heero removed his jacket and draped it on the back
of the couch. Duo appeared with two cups of coffee in hand. He handed one to
Heero, who took it gratefully.
“We have a lot of catching up to do,” Duo murmured, taking a sip. Heero nodded,
face expressionless. Duo sat down next to him on the couch and neither said a
word. They sat there in silence, drinking their coffee. All the while, Heero was
searching for an explanation, an excuse he could make to cover up his heartless
mistake. There had to be something he could do. Why had he been so foolish? He
had no idea leaving Duo would end up wrecking his friend’s life for four long
years...
Duo got up to get more coffee and unwittingly brushed Heero’s shoulder. The
feeling sent shivers all through Heero’s body, and he suddenly longed for more.
He needed more. He...
Duo reappeared shortly from the kitchen and stopped, staring at Heero worriedly.
“What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“I...I’m just tired I guess.”
“Oh.”
Duo suddenly looked very sad.
“You can sleep in my bed tonight. I’ll take the couch.”
Heero shook his head. “I couldn’t.”
“You will.”
“Duo.”
“What?”
Heero choked on his words, but he thought them all the same:
I don't want to be alone tonight.
“What?” Duo asked again, a hint of annoyance in his voice. Heero shook his head.
He could never tell him. He didn’t want to admit it, but he felt it in his heart
whenever he looked at that photograph. He knew he was solitary and withdrawn
from life but when he met Duo...something happened inside him that made him feel
like no one has ever made him feel before. Like a frozen rose, his heart thawed
and opened to the boy who had no idea what he had done. How could he begin to
explain to Duo that he wanted him as so much more than just a friend...?
Duo sat down next to him and Heero gulped down his nervousness.
I’m nervous...?
He turned his head and looked at Duo. He was so beautiful. Gorgeous. It broke
his heart -the heart he never knew he had- to see someone so beautiful suffering
because of his own foolish mistake.
Duo noticed Heero staring out of the corner of his eye and turned to gaze at
him.
“What are you doing? You’ve been staring at me like that all night.”
Heero’s throat went suddenly dry.
He said nothing. He leaned forward, grabbing Duo about the waist and kissing
him. Duo reacted not in shock or fear, but he didn’t respond, either. Heero
broke this kiss and breathed heavily. It felt good. It felt so good to do that.
“Why are you doing this?” Duo whispered, his voice barely audible. Heero only
closed his eyes and pressed his face against Duo’s warm chest. He began to
tremble madly and Duo held him as best he could.
“Heero...?”
He remembered his life before he became a soldier. So brief. So sweet. He knew
what happiness was then, before military powers decided to steal it away from
him. These visions were suddenly clearer to him when he was around Duo. He
gently pulled away and stared at Duo like he was the missing key to his box of
emotions, a Pandora’s Box of sadness and regret but also of happiness and joy.
He was willing to do or give anything to open up that box now.
He pushed Duo onto his back and laid down on top of him. He felt Duo’s heart
fluttering inside his chest and the uncertainty he saw in those glorious
amethyst eyes. He gently stroked Duo’s hair and whispered,
“Please say you’ll let me love you tonight.”
He felt Duo’s heart begin to pound underneath him, and he parted his lips in a
reply.
“Yes.”
Heero leaned down and feathered Duo’s lips lightly with his own. Then he slipped
his tongue past those soft lips and into that warm mouth.
Heero sat astride Duo’s hips and peeled off his shirt. Duo felt his senses swim
and he gazed at that tempting body. Heero tugged at his shirt and he complied,
lifting his arms over his head and allowing the shirt to fall in a crumpled heap
to the floor. His braid flopped limply over the edge of the couch.
Heero fell upon him like a man whose lips had grown tired of the taste of water,
and now craved wine. He kissed a path down Duo’s neck. Duo closed his eyes and
opened his mouth slightly at the hot, wet sensation. Heero drew one soft nipple
into his mouth, eliciting a loud groan from Duo, who ran his fingers through
Heero’s dark brown hair.
He stopped kissing just long enough to say,
“I love you.”
Duo stopped tousling Heero’s hair and looked up at him.
“I....I love you too, Heero.”
“No. I...really love you.”
“Heero, would ya shut up and make love to me, already?”
He laughed silently at Duo’s antics, and Duo was convinced there was nothing
more beautiful in the world than the smile of a stone. He allowed Heero to undo
the top of his pants and clumsily pull them off. Heero quickly disposed of his
own and sat back on Duo’s legs.
He locked his blue eyes to violet ones as he slowly inched the boxers down Duo’s
hips. He noticed his lover begin to breathe more heavily the further down he
drew them. The boxers reached Duo’s ankles and he quickly kicked them off. Heero
removed his own while he was at it. Duo trembled violently as he watched Heero
slowly descend to the newly exposed portion of his anatomy.
He gently nuzzled Duo’s sex and breathed hot, heavy breaths onto it. Duo moaned
in agony and slid his legs over Heero’s shoulders. Heero’s tongue darted out and
slid along the length, forcing Duo to curl up in a foetal position.
“Oh...oh God...!” he gasped, and clutched the back of Heero’s neck. His response
was the swallowing of Duo’s body part whole.
“Unnnhh...!” he keened as he felt the tongue slide up and down and over and
under. God, he had never known such pleasures existed in real life. They
magnified into a brilliant shade of red behind his closed eyes and he felt
something within him explode violently outward.
Heero had been waiting for this, and he swallowed every last drop of his lover’s
essence. Duo, exhausted by this flood of sudden unspeakable pleasure, was
rendered a helpless, gasping wreck. Heero carefully unwound himself from his
legs and crawled up to face Duo.
He leaned down and kissed Duo, who could still taste himself on Heero’s tongue.
He felt Heero’s hand wander further and further down his body, searching. He
found at last what he was looking for, and gently probed into Duo’s orifice with
one finger.
Duo gasped and clutched the back of Heero’s neck.
“Oh God! That hurts..!” he whined.
“Forgive me,” was all Heero said, and added another finger. Duo bit into his
fist and screamed silently. Another finger. Oh God-! Duo shuddered and moaned
loudly.
Sweat rolled off of Heero’s body and he slowly withdrew his fingers. Duo
relaxed, only to seize up like a vice and scream Heero’s name as he felt several
inches of solid muscle ascend into his body.
When Heero heard his name screamed, he came within Duo. That helped with the
problem of too much friction. He pulled out, dripping trails of semen and pushed
back in, this time more easily. Duo panted for breath and gazed into Heero’s
firm, concentrating expression. He was so beautiful when his hair fell into his
eyes. He slowly drew Heero downward in a long, passionate kiss.
Heero caressed his lover’s flesh, savoring its warmth. Duo, now accustomed to
the new sensation, thrust his pelvis upward, rooting Heero deeper into his body.
Heero groaned roughly and came for the second time that evening. After that,
everything funneled down into darkness, a warm pleasant darkness.
Heero laid his head against Duo’s chest and listened to the rhythm of his
heartbeat. Thu-thump. Thu-thump. It was like a lullaby, the most
beautiful song he had ever heard.
I really fell this time. For you, koi. When will I stop falling...?
Tear glistened in Heero’s eyes as he whispered,
“How did I fall in love with you?”
